SFA is carefully paced spy thriller that has more in common with a John LeCarre character study than a Tom Clancy action yarn. The plot moves along at a steady pace however, building suspense with every page on its way to a climactic finale. There are intriguing twists and turns along the way (to say nothing of a bombshell of a revelation near the end) and some interesting unanswered questions linger long after you've finished the book.Angstrom, a CIA operative sidelined to a desk job after his last field assignment went bad, is asked to take charge of a branch of the Tactical Technology Office (TTO) of the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) to analyze the crowd sourced submissions for the research and design of a new Marine Amphibious Vehicle. One of the submissions comes to him in a very extraordinary way and leads Angstrom on a journey that causes him to reevaluate his life, his colleagues, and his future. Along the way, he crosses paths with a disenfranchised professor coming to grips with the realities of the new Russia.
This is an intriguing thinking man's saga of espionage, treason, betrayal and ultimately renewal. It's not devoid of action, but doesn't rely solely on it for its essence.
For those who may consider a comparison to Le Carre a turn-off because of his sometimes abstract way of telling a story, rest assured that the comparison is directed more towards similarity in tone and mood than to phraseology itself.
SFA is written in a very captivating and engaging manner."

SOURCE*FORGED ARMOR John Angstrom #1 edition by Paul J Bartusiak Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews
Captivating story with intrigue, depth of characters and a technological sub plot. Bartusiak has created a story line with characters that are rich in imagination and complexity. This is a book worth reading.
The author did a good job building the characters background. The story is brings together new topical topics (e.g. crowd sourcing) and explains both sides of using such a technique. At the end of the book I was wanting more... anticipating what the characters in next book may do.
Very well-written. Credible characters, well developed for the most part. Might have done with a bit less jargon, but certainly not a deal-breaker.
I had a great time reading this book. The plot is pretty creative and the details of undercover operations are fun to read. Great to pass the time in the plane and avoid using your computer over the public network.
This novel is actually about 2 men the ex-spy trying to adjust to a new lifestyle and the professor who cannot adjust to the changes around him. The interesting thing about these 2 men is that they live on opposite sides of the planet---and yet they must be connected. This is the fun of reading this novel--to find the connection, but with some unexpected happenings along the way.
A real page turner. Full of surprising turns of events throughout. Just enough technology and spy jargon to be credible but not overwhelming. A great fun read.
Significant improvements can be seen in the author's ability to build suspense and maintain the reader's attention. I found myself hurriedly reading and turning the pages to find out what was going to happen next. Much like the author's last book "Pencil's Down, Faces Up", there continues to be very good character development. However, in this book, there is a much more penetrating psychological thriller embedded in the plot. The author has a way of revealing the character's innermost passions and motivations weaving together the personalities in an intricate and calculating manner. The action is kept to a minimum but when necessary, it isn't embellished too much ensuring that there is a believability about it all. It was equally enjoyable to have the technology be an important part of the story yet keeping the required understanding at the level of the layperson so that it did not overwhelm the reader. I would recommend this book as a refreshing take on the spy and international intrigue thrill genre.
